This Sunday evening I attempted to throw my very first Tea Party. I’ve thrown dinner parties, birthday parties, brunches and barbecues before, but this was my first formal Tea Party. All weekend I’ve been stressing out, thinking nothing would be done in time, and I was worried I would have too little food. I also didn’t think I had enough silverware, plates, cups, etc… I was just afraid I would fail my attempt. To my pleasant surprise, with the help of my dear friend Mary and the reassurance of my boyfriend, my first Tea Party was a success.
The idea is that my friends and I would take turns hosting a dinner party, all the while the said host would tie the theme in with something related to her own interest. It could be at a restaurant, at home, picnic, whatever, but the host would have some knowledge about what we were doing. I happen to love tea and have perfected brewing it, so a Tea Party made a lot of sense. The tea menu included four different teas, each very different and unique. Food offerings included Spinach & Parmesan Pastry Rolls, Caramelized Onion Palmiers, Mini-Mushroom turnovers, Spring Salad, Fresh Fruit, Cucumber Sandwiches and Smoked Salmon Sandwiches. For dessert I offered Lemon Tarts and really floral Vanilla Ice Cream. It was an intimate dinner for four with background music provided by Carla Bruni, Sufjan Stevens, Ingrid Michaelson and Adele. Conversation flowed freely with topics jumping from the history of Tea to the latest gossip. All in all, it was a relaxing evening, full of hot flavorful tea and rare quality time with the girls.
